Race to Space
During the Cold War, The Soviets and Americans began a race to see who would be the first to put a man in space. Starting in 1957 and ending with an exciting conclusion on July 20, 1969, the “Race to Space” dramatically changed the world. This program will take a walk on the moon with the people who were major characters of the Space Race and help participants learn a better understanding of how that time period still helps us have a better today. If you like making space landers, exploring the galaxy, and would like to blast off to the moon, make sure to join us!

Music of the Wiregrass
Music has played a major role in every civilization through history.  This Homeschool Day will allow students to put their hands on real instruments (such as the dulcimer, spoons, drums, etc.) and learn the importance of keeping these musical traditions alive. From the pioneers to the Native Americans, students will learn a wide variety of music and history of each instrument. Come rediscover the heartbeat of the Wiregrass when you join us for this Homeschool Day!

Secrets of the Kitchen Garden
In this program, homeschoolers will learn about Landmark Park’s Kitchen Garden and get to put their hands in the dirt as they learn how the plants grow. They will also get to help some of our Master Gardeners harvest the garden. As they learn the secrets behind keeping a garden, they will have the opportunity to plant a seedling themselves to take home and start a garden of their own! Learn the mysteries among the weeds!

Harvest Heydays
You are invited!  Students will enjoy an educational program full of fall harvest fun at Harvest Heydays! This event centers on a visit to the pumpkin patch where each child will take home their very own pumpkin. We will also have many other fall-related educational activities such as corn pulling and shucking, cotton picking, peanut stacking, and hayrides. We will also have the Kernels of Fun area (a huge box filled with corn kernels) which will give your students the opportunity to enjoy corn in a whole new way.

Living History
*Costumed Program!!* Give your homeschoolers the experience of living and working on a Wiregrass Farmstead in the early 1900s. Students will get the opportunity to cook on the hearth, make butter, care for the farm animals, help in the garden and more! Costumed in period dress, students will be divided into small groups in order to participate at the different workstations. This half-day program will conclude with lunch (prepared by the students) at the Waddell House, traditional games, a hay ride, and an ice cream cone served from the Martin Drugstore.

Christmas Past
Thinking of Christmas the way your grandparents described it to you? Students can experience some of the same activities and emotions of this very special season with cider tasting and story-telling by the fireplace. The children will also be invited to play parlor games and construct old-fashioned ornaments they may take home with them.

Meet the Mammals
Live animal program! Whether your homeschooler is learning about mammals or you both just love furry animals, this field class will take your homeschooler on a journey through the life of a mammal and define the characteristics of a mammal.  Students will learn many cool facts about mammals as well as our relationship and role in their environment.

Aerospace Day
This program will focus on space and aviation exploration! Students will be able to venture into the unknown of space in the planetarium, learn about flight and the history behind aviation through hands-on flight activities, and many more interactive adventures into the sky!

Pitcher Plant Dissection
Ever wish those pesky gnats would suddenly disappear? In this Homeschool Day, students will get to learn one plant that’s saving humanity one bug at a time. Students will learn about other carnivorous plants and their importance to Earth. They will also get a chance to see a bug’s view of their bellies! So if meat eating plants are more your style, you will NOT want to miss this Homeschool Day! Join us for a bite!

Wonderful Wetlands
This program offers a unique learning experience perfect for older more adventurous groups willing to roll up their sleeves and get a little wet and muddy (Also appropriate for more advanced younger students). Students will conduct activities to understand how streams and ponds form, how freshwater organisms adapt, and how factors such as pH affect these environments. Students will have an opportunity to explore an actual nearby freshwater ecosystem.  Students should come prepared to get wet and muddy in this class. Rain boots can be provided.Come have a wild adventure with us!
